How to

clean the ear mould

Moulds without a speaker can be washed when detached from the hearing aid. Be aware that moulds WITH speakers can’t be washed, so make sure you know which solution you have.

The mould should be cleaned regularly. Use a soft cloth to clean the surface of the mould. Use the MultiTool wire loop to clean the opening.

Wash the mould

  • Step 1

Make sure you are able to identify which mould is for which instrument before disconnecting them from the instruments.

  • Step 2

Disconnect the tube and mould from the hook. Hold the hook firmly, when pulling off the tube. Otherwise the instrument may be damaged.

  • Step 3

Wash the mould and tube using mild soap. Rinse and dry completely before reconnecting to the hearing instrument.

Moulds for BTE with hook

These moulds range from half-shell to full-shell solutions and are typically used with BTE and miniBTE hearing aids.

Since they are custom-made from an ear impression, these moulds keep the hearing aid more securely locked in the ear as they take advantage of all the curves and contours of the ear.

Moulds with and without speakers

Be aware that there are generally two types of ear moulds – with or without a speaker/receiver – and that they should be cleaned differently. If you are unsure which type your mould is, please ask your hearing care professional.

Moulds without a speaker/receiver range from half-shell to full-shell solutions and are typically used with behind-the-ear hearing aids. Since they are custom-made for each ear, these moulds keep the hearing aid more securely locked in the ear as they take advantage of all the curves and contours of the ear.
